When Vegas is open, with a project loaded -- and keep in mind that I use Waves plugins in virtually every one of my projects for audio -- and I go to open a new Windows 7 Explorer window whether a local drive to find a file, or a networked drive, it doesn't seem to make a difference with this issue , Vegas instantly crashes and gives me the error dialog box asking if I'd like to report the issue.
Some days it happens first thing in the morning after booting the computer, some days it doesn't happen until later in the day after I've opened and closed half a dozen projects, and other days it doesn't do it at all. My General Prefs match your screen shot: both of those boxes are currently checked. I've never changed them. I've finally got better info on these crashes. Here is the crash report: Next time I get one, I'll compare and see if it is the same info. I hope you never get another one. I would suggest looking at your log files in Event Viewer i think it's named the same in Windows 7 - I'm on an XP station at the moment Check out the application and System logs to see what was happening at the time of the crashes.
It may give you some clues as to the cause. Answer the last question about whether or not the info on the crash is identical each time? I just saved four crashes that occurred over the past week, and each was identical. It's often different in one location: this memory location keeps changing. Each of these is a different crash on a different day. Spent an hour looking at every listing in these, and didn't really find much that coincided with the time of the crashes.
Does the crash happen if you uncheck the preferences for: 1. Close media files when not the active application 2. Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application. If it stops crashing after unchecking those, it is possible that the crash happens when re-loading media, which would explain why the memory address is different in each report.
